In other words, the knives with the 'T' suffix were only produced upon request and then only for a short time (likely less than 3 years).This Guardian II is one of those knives. For a short time, Gerber honored these special requests and stamped the L6 tool steel versions with an alpha-numeric serial number that ended with a 'T' to distinguish these knives from the stainless steel versions whose serial numbers ended with an 'S'. After this switch was made, some customers made special requests for Mark IIs and Guardian IIs in L6 tool steel rather than 440C.
